Royal College, Panadura [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9] (Sinhala: රාජකීය විද්‍යාලය, පාණදුර) is a National school situated in the suburb of Panadura in Western Province, Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan local news papers also refer Royal College Panadura as Panadura Royal College,[10] Panadura Royal[11][12] or Royal Panadura.[13][14][15] Current students of Royal College Panadura are called Panadura Royalists.[16][17][18][19]

History and Royal College Panadura facilities

The school was inaugurated in 1978 as Janadipathy Vidyalaya and later renamed as Royal College Panadura. The college conducts classes from grade 1 to 13 in both Sinhala and Tamil medium including English medium from grade six onwards. Royal College Panadura is spreaded across over 34 acres (140,000 m2) consisting of a complete Information Technology Centre,facilities of over 10 scientific labs, auditoriums, Sports Complex boasting of squash courts, basketball courts and table tennis, an international standard rugby football ground and a modern gymnasium, 2 cricket grounds and nets, swimming pool with diving facilities, along with volleyball and tennis courts.[20]

Royal College Panadura plays annual cricket Big Match with St. John's College Panadura (Royal Panadura versus St. John's Panadura). It is also called Battle of the Greens.[21] The Big Match is played for Mervyn Joseph Cooray Shield.

Royal College Panadura has two main alumni associations. These alumni associations plany annual cricket matches against other alumni associations such as the Old Wesleyites Sports Club and the Old Johnians Old Boys Association.[25][26]

There are many other schools such as Royal College Colombo, Royal College Horana, Royal College Polonnaruwa, Royal College Wayamba in Sri Lanka that have Royal in its title,[27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45] none of those are affiliated to Royal College Panadura.
