Articles for Deletion

[edit]

Consensus (via application of WP:RS and WP:Notability) by editors who originally seemed suspicious of one another shows that Wikipedia works! :)

Nominated for deletion:

[edit]

Articles on topics which lack reliable sources reporting ongoing activities, rather a single event (criminal in at least in one case).

Attempted rescue:

[edit]

Articles (which then needed polishing) on topics having reliable sources. (After having nominated 3 articles for deletion, my karma was helped by rescuing articles from deletion!)

Biographies of Living Persons

[edit]
  • George Benson: Reliable sources call him a "devout Jehovah's Witnesses" and in interviews he discusses preparing for the ministry when Michael Jackson shared his religion and states that he donates a lot of funds to the Watchtower organization. His autobiography's acknowledgments give thanks to "the name of Jehovah" (p. 213). Notice that we have left Benson uncategorized. I have come to appreciate the policy of categorization after reading the ordeal of Robert Kagan, listed below.
  • Carl Bildt, besides Donbass Association Malmö, also cited the non-centrist fora Nyheter Idag (right) and Expo (magazine). It seems to have been written as an attack article. Discussed at a WP:BLPN
  • Robert Kagan (Victoria Nuland, Neoconservatism, Project for a New American Century): Before Bildt, also discussed at WP:BLPN. In this case, the subject has been trying since 2008 to stop being labeled as "Jewish" and "neoconservative", etc. (Compare Benson and his religion!) Again, an IP has been putting the names of their children on articles, without reference and invading privacy.

Should Wikipedia have biographies of living persons? Many of them seem to be attack articles written by people with a grudge. In any event, I have trouble to think of anything worse on Wikipedia than invading the privacy of children as payback for their parents's actions.

The ... encyclopedia anyone can edit repeatedly vandalise

[edit]

When I revert damage by accounts with a history of vandalism (e.g., [14],[15]), I am surprised to see that the accounts have received only gentle warnings about vandalism---perhaps to reform vandals or reasonably to avoid antagonising them and giving them attention (WP:DENY).

Nonetheless, when I am cleaning up after a vandal's latest damage, I feel like The Wire's Jimmy McNulty did upon learning about Snotboogie [16] — which was adapted from

the parable of Snot Boogie,
who joined the neighborhood crap game, waited for the pot to thicken, then grabbed the cash and bolted down the street only to be shot dead by one of the irate players.
"So we're interviewing the witnesses down at the office and they're saying how Snot Boogie would always join the crap game, then run away with the pot, and that they'd finally gotten sick of it..."
[....]
"And I asked one of them, you know, I asked him why they even let Snot Boogie into the game if he always tried to run away with the money."
[....]
"He just looked at me real bizarre", says McLarney. "And then he says, 'you gotta let him play....This is America!'."

Multiple-personality disorders: Trigger warnings

[edit]

“But you know me by a different, much older name, a name perhaps you hoped you’d never hear again.”

— Doctor Octavius Brine, a.k.a. Dave the Octopus, Penguins of Madagascar

Apparently my editing induces flashbacks, at least by editors who disagree with my edits, who have serially accused me of being:

  1. Robert Kagan or Victoria Nuland [17], [18]
  2. Wixifixer (talk · contribs) and an IP (SPI)
  3. Collect (talk · contribs) or Vertrag (talk · contribs) (SPI and an apology!)
  4. Mr2001 (talk · contribs) and apparently Checking the checkers (talk · contribs) [19]("civility" & "more civility) and an IP "AGF"
  5. Unnamed. [20]
  6. Unnamed and possibly dangerous[21],[22] and threatening[23] — but "Not dickishly calling you a sock"[24]

Some of these editors file a lot of SPI requests, all exemplifying WP policies such as Assume good faith, Civility, and Please don't bite the newcomers.

I am thinking of changing my name to an acronym combining all of these accused accounts—Shazam! was good enough for Captain Marvel (DC Comics) and Gomer Pyle. Alas RK-VN-W(f)-IP-C-V-M2001-Ch ... does not suggest a good user-name.
