Re: Peter Chingoka

Hi Loganberry,

Myself, I wouldn't tend to document when someone had been arrested and released without charge after a few hours. However, I probably wouldn't revert it either. The reason I reverted your version was that it said he had been charged, not just arrested.

Kiritimati or Xmas Island

I do confirm that provisional jets is a mistranslation. Provisional airlines flights is perhaps better. I do confirm that Air Kiribati chartered one weekly flight to Aloha Airlines (very early on sunday morning). When the service of Aloha stopped, it was replaced from time to time by some flights on little jets, before a regular flight was reinstated last October by Air Pacific. On this flight, Air Kiribati charters 12 PAX. Marshman was (a long time ago) there: I also confirm that Air Kiribati not only charters for passengers but also for freight. It's very expensive for the Government, but as most Shops and Utilities are governmental, and few ships available, air freight is made (from HNL to Xmas) mainly by freight in provisions (and of pet fish from Xmas to HNL). And I have just been there to confirm all that (not in the seventies...Enzino 18:24, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Whole life tariff

Hi, I agree with your concern about Harry Roberts' presence in the table which adorns the aforementioned article. I've made an alternative suggestion, and added two further prisoners whose presence within the table is dubious (albeit for different reasons). Regards! Bentley Banana 14:22, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciate your comments. I think it might eventually be worth adding some words underneath the table on prisoners who are assumed to be on a WLT but aren't, or who probably are but have not been publicised as such (Ian Huntley, Roy Whiting, Bruce George Peter Lee, Beverley Allitt etc fall into one or the other of these categories). Also there are still more known WLT prisoners to add, such as Archie Hall and Malcolm Green, but I don't think they have wikipedia pages at all Bentley Banana 22:20, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've made a start on the above suggestion. Now we have two tables... Bentley Banana 15:32, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Um... A pre-nuptial agreement, probably. Would you mind actually signing your comments next time, please? Loganberry (Talk) 03:42, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Marcus Trescothick

You wrote: I note you reverted a mention of Marcus Trescothick's return home from India on the grounds that it wasn't really that significant in terms of his whole career. I'm mildly surprised, having visited the article specifically to see how this issue had been covered, but as it's still an ongoing thing I can understand it, and I have no intention of editing it back in.
My question to you, though, is at what point you think it would be sensible to include it. Clearly if Trescothick never gets back into the England team and his international career ends because of this, that would be notable enough for a mention - but let's say he's back playing Tests in the summer. Personally I'm inclined to feel that a vice-captain's absence from an entire major tour - for any reason - is quite notable in itself; where do you think the line should be drawn? Loganberry (Talk) 02:59, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi Loganberry,

Thanks for your note. I may have erred by reverting that edit. In my defence, at the time I did, it was immediately after he had left the tour, and there was no indication how long he was going to be away. I also felt that it was out of proportion to the rest of the article (which doesn't have much recent stuff at all). And finally, I thought it was distasteful to put it in the sentence next to his wife, which seemed to prejudge what the unknown personal issue was.

I think one of the weakest things about Wikipedia is the way that news stories instantly get added to people's articles with no sense of perspective as to their true importance, mistaking immediacy for importance, and way out of proportion to the rest of the article. However, this one probably has proved important enough that something should be included.

Stephen Turner (Talk) 10:19, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed about the second point, and I know I've done that myself on occasion (on the Peter Chingoka article, for example). Also agreed that the juxtaposition of the "personal problems" bit with the bit about his wife was a bit off. And yes, had he been back in time for the first Test it would have been much less important.
Of course, we have no idea whether Trescothick will say anything about what's happened. If he does, then clearly we can quote him. If he doesn't, which at this point seems more likely, then it's a judgement call. Maybe put something in at the end of the series? Loganberry (Talk) 12:02, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Javagal Srinath

I am in Indian cricket fan and you must realise that the bowler opening the bowling in tests/ODI's in the late nineties with Srinath was Venkatesh Prasad, who wasn't all that great. So, effectively, Srinath was the only strike bowler. So, nothing wrong with this.

  • Srinath has had to shoulder the burden of the strike bowler almost single handedly and had to undergo an operation on his right shoulder in 1997.

Well, this is obviously POV.

  • Spearheading the Indian pace attack for numerous years, Srinath rarely let down the cricket fans in the country. Whether in Test cricket or the limited overs game, whether in making the initial breakthrough with the new ball, breaking up a vital partnership in the middle order or cleaning up the tail, Srinath could always be depended upon to deliver the goods. Bowling with a smooth action, the `Karnataka Express' was always able to extract pace and bounce from even docile wickets. Perhaps the finest tribute to his pace bowling skills is the fact that a large percentage of his impressive bag of international wickets have been taken on unfriendly tracks at home. On the bouncy tracks in Australia and South Africa and in green conditions in England, he was more often than not the leading wicket taker. Srinath frequently displayed the entire repertoire of the fast bowler's art - the dipping inswinger, the late outswinger, the deadly yorker, the whistling bouncer. At the same time he never compromised on the basic qualities of bowling - line and length.

Only the World Cup story is true and should remain in the original article

  • He retired from international cricket after the 2003 world cup in South Africa in which he gave a stellar performance until the final against Australia, where he appeared to crumble under pressure, conceding an alarming 87 of his 10 overs. He is remembered as a trailblazer for Indian pace bowling. Strongly built and lightning in his youth (there are reports that he clocked 157 km/h in 1996 V South Africa), he was for a decade the lion of India, striking fear into the hearts of opposition Batsmen from Brisbane to Bangalore. Despite being one of the best fast bowlers the World and India had ever seen it was unfortunate that he was never given the credit he deserved

Javagal Srinath

Hi, I am a big fan of Javagal Srinath and I have followed his career, especially his bowling pace.In 1996,Srinath was recorded at 157 kph against Zimbabwe in the 1st One day International match,in S Africa. The then worlds fastest bowler,Allan Donald was clocked at the highest pace of 147kph.That would mean that Srinath,if not the worlds fastest at that time, was easily amongst the 2-3 fastest bowlers of the world, with Donald and Waqar. In 1999,after his shoulder injury,in the World Cup,Srinath was officially clocked at 149.6kph which was the second fastest delievery of the tournament, against Australia. The fastest delievery was bowled by Shoib Akhtar of Pakistan which was at 154 kph.It clearly showed that even with age catching up and injury having eaten up his pace,Srinath was still easily one of the worlds fastest. In 2003 World Cup,Srinath was clocked at 143 kph, when his contemporaries like Donald and Waqar were struggling to clock 135kph. Even then,Srinath was never recognized as one of histories fastest bowler, which he certainly was.I will be thankful to you if you can bring these facts to light to your readers. And I would also appreciate if you could follow up Srinath's career, especially his bowling speed. And if you can, please send a copy of this letter to Javagal Srinath.

                                                        Many thanks,
                                                        Amit Anshu
I'm afraid I'm not any sort of expert on Srinath; I was simply making a couple of fairly minor changes to the article. Thanks for the facts, though. I've also removed your email address from this page, as otherwise you'd be likely to get spam. Loganberry (Talk) 23:07, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I see you uploaded an image to this page last year. You do not appear to have added a fair use rationale on the image page, I suggest you take a look here otherwise the image will have to be deleted. --Wisden17 17:11, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Brookie here - I see that you have a lot to do with Cricket - do you know anything that could be contributed to the above article? Brookie :) - a will o' the wisp ! (Whisper...) 12:46, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I doubt I can add much to what's already there, since it's quite a detailed article as it stands. I've found and corrected a minor typo, but though I'll willingly look it over I don't really know much at all about Cahn. Loganberry (Talk) 13:01, 20 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

i took the picture of the book cover myself, i am writing an article on a project of mine about a homosexual author named jonathon bruns. It seems my article got deleted for who knows whatreason — Preceding unsigned comment added by Crzy2 (talkcontribs)

I think you've put that comment on the wrong user's Talk page... it was Brookie who tagged it with the "no source" box, not me. Loganberry (Talk) 15:12, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Brookie, I've had some contact with you before so i figured you'd be a good person to go to with my issue. There is a page that has been deleted five times, it's for the band Hollywood Undead.

There is a user, I'm not sure if he's an administrator or not but he wants to delete it and protect it from re-creation because he doesn't the notability for it.

I disagree wholeheartedly. The band is currently signed to Interscope Records and are recording their debut album through the Myspace Records imprint. If that isn't notable enough, that's kind of sad.

Thank you much. Adam Klatka

Another one intended for Brookie. I think what's happened is that he's accidentally pointed his "add a new message" code to this Talk page rather than his own; with any luck that's fixed now. I've added your comment, and the one above, to Brookie's Talk page, so that should sort things out. Loganberry (Talk) 22:50, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Thanks for that :)

The Predator is somewhat in limbo at the moment. Over the Winter of 2005/6, there were lots of snippets of information surrounding Graeme and the car. Most of them suggested that the Engine had suffered a serious problem on the Dyno after a rebuild. There also appears to have been a deterioration in the relationship between him and Pride Engines. The facts of the matter are difficult to distil from the rumour borne of personal motivations, and therefore not a good subject for entering on the Wiki.

The last I heard, The Engine had been taken to Judd Engineering for remedial work. As a purely personal point of view, I feel that it's becoming evident that the F1 V10 may have been a mistake. It's design was so specific to it's original purpose, that there were was no latitude for engineering it for a different application. I really, really hope I'm talking nonesense here, because not only was it one of the most wonderful noises ever heard, Graeme is also a friend and a competitor I respect hugely.
