Niantic, Inc.
Niantic Labs, or NianticLabs@Google, is an internal startup within Google.[1] The Labs takes its name from a whaling vessel that came to San Francisco during the Gold Rush.[2] The Niantic Project is an investigation of Niantic, run by an NPC. Niantic Labs is the company that develops the games.
It was founded by John Hanke, who formerly of Keyhole. [3]
Projects
- In September 2012, Niantic came out with its first product, a free Android app called Field Trip.
- In November 2012, Ingress, an invite-only augmented reality game for Android, was launched.
- In October 2013, Ingress became an ongoing open beta accessible with Android.
- In December 2013, Ingress came out of beta on the Android platform.
- In July 2014 Niantic released Ingress on the iOS platform.
- In October 2014, An augmented reality campaign for Endgame began running at Ancient Societies.[4]
- Niantic will release a new game Endgame: Proving Ground accompanying a set of books and a movie. The first book will be Endgame: The Calling. The movie will be called Endgame: Ancient Truth.[5][3]
