Dogyuun (ドギューン!!) is a vertical scrolling Shoot 'em up developed by Toaplan in 1992. The name translates from Japanese to the word 'Bang' as printed in Manga, particularly when a large caliber gun is fired.

Story

Mankind’s progress into space leads to the colonization of over one-hundred planets. On the planet Lagoon a galactic security force is established called the ISM equipped with the best fighter ship technology available, particularly the Sylfer unit fighter ships. A distress call is dispatched from the colony planet Dino; when the ISM reconnaissance team arrives, they find an enormous mechanical fortress has risen from the depths of the planet’s largest ocean. After a sweep of the area, an enormous robot of alien technology attacks them and retreats back to the mysterious fortress, prompting the remaining Sylfers - the player ships - to follow it.

Gameplay

Players go through ten stages of enemy waves, bullet patterns, enormous end-level bosses and a checkpoint system. The player’s ships can collect one of four different weapons. Among the weapons include the straight firing Mega Shot, the erratic moving Psycho Beam, the wide shooting V-Laser and the Homing Fire weapon. Among the pick-up items include Bombs, Speed-Ups and 1Ups. The ships have the ability to increase their speed and, if another player is present, the ships can unite and combine firepower.
