Orange Mittai is a 2015 Indian, Tamil, Dark Comedy film co-written and directed by Biju Viswanath. Produced by actor Vijay Sethupathi, the film features him in the lead role alongside Ramesh Thilak, Arumugam Bala and Aashritha. The film began production in mid-2014.[1]
Plot
Satya (Ramesh Thilak) works as a paramedic in an ambulance emergency service. On the same day of his father's death anniversary ,Sathya receives a call to pick up an old man who claims to be critically ill. Sathya, along with ambulance driver , rushes to the old man's house in an ambulance and helps Kailasam (Vijay Sethupathi) to board the vehicle. In the process, he learns that the old man isn't fighting for his life as claimed by him earlier, but he is a heart patient nevertheless. As these three men begin their journey in the ambulance, Kailasam's grumpy and obstinate nature causes trouble to the paramedics and the course of their journey changes drastically. Who is Kailasam? What does he really want? What is the cause behind his adamant nature? Answers to these questions forms the crux of the story. The old man needs to find a hospital that will have him, but it’s a very long way to go. The only way to find out what the universe has planned is to make the journey. Sometimes the Journey is the destination....

Production
Actor Vijay Sethupathi launched his production, Orange Mittai, in February 2014 and signed up director Biju Viswanath to direct the venture. The film was said to feature an ensemble cast including Jayaprakash, Ramesh Thilak, Aru Bala and Aashritha in the lead roles, with Vijay Sethupathi stating he would not play a role.[2][3]
However in July 2014, Vijay Sethupathi revealed that he would play a 55 year old man in the film and promotional stills were released, replacing Jayaprakash in the character.[4] He was also making a debut as a dialogue writer with this film.[5] The team shot in Ambasamuthiram and other places surrounding Tirunelveli and Papanasam in South Tamil Nadu.[6]
Soundtrack
The film's soundtrack was composed by Justin Prabhakaran, who had earlier produced the music for Sethupathi's Pannaiyarum Padminiyum. The soundtrack album, which was released on 1 July 2015,[7] features four tracks, of which two were written and sung by Vijay Sethupathi himself.[8]

Oraneg Mittai had its world wide theatrical release on July 31 2015 in India,USA,Singapore and Malyasia [9]
Reception
"orange Mittai" received negative reviews upon its theatrical release on 31 July 2015.
S.Saraswathi Rediff.com wrote: Orange Mittai is a beautiful film.The movie has its sweet and sour moments, with just the right balance of humour and emotions.[10]Nandita Ravi Times of India wrote :"Overall, like an orange mittai, the film too is bittersweet. The biggest plus of the film is its run time - a mere one hour and forty minutes, which seems to be more than enough to narrate this interesting story.
