Pilar de Guzman Manalo-Danao (born March 10,1914, died 1980?) also known as Ka Pilar, was the eldest child of Felix Manalo, and Iglesia Ni Cristo's first Head Choir Directress. She is instrumental in the creation of hymns for the INC.[1] Pilar is the official lyricist of the church under the acronym PMD.

Personal Life

Pilar was born at Punta, Santa Ana Manila on March 10, 1914. She was the eldest child of Felix Ysagun Manalo and Honorata de Guzman. Her father named her "Pilar" which means "pillar".[1] Her siblings were Avelina, Salvador, Dominador, Eraño and Bienvenido.[3] She married Victor Danao, a military colonel.[2] On 1942, Felix Manalo consolidated all choir units by assigning her as the Head Choir Directress.[1]

Pilar Manalo-Danao Multimedia Center

On March 10, 2014, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo, the current Executive Minister of the Iglesia Ni Cristo, inaugurated the Pilar Manalo-Danao Multimedia Center at Pilar's 100th birth anniversary, as part of the Centennial projects of the church, along with the Philippine Arena, Philippine Sports Stadium, Honorata de Guzman-Manalo Multipurpose Building, Eraño G. Manalo Memorial Medical Center, Eduardo V. Manalo Convention Center and New Era University-Bulacan Campus)[4] The building is located at the INC Central Complex, Quezon City Philippines. It comprises 9500 square meters. Sunny yellow in color, classical design with modern approach, the building has eight levels: consists of two basements, six upper floors and a roof deck. It has 200 rooms, serves as designated office for choir directors, songwriters and all those who part in the artistic works of the church.[4]

In the epic and biographical film Felix Manalo, Pilar is portrayed by Filipino actresses Snooky Serna and Carla Humphries respectively.[5][6]
