Crown Prince of Country Music is a compilation album by country music artist George Jones. It was released on Starday Records in 1961, and features songs from Jones' first recording sessions. The 2015 reissue featured this album and the 1959 studio release "White Lightning and Other Favorites" as well as bonus tracks.

Background

Starday issued The Crown Prince of Country Music in 1961 to capitalize on Jones' Mercury success by compiling an album of leftover tracks that had not previously appeared on album. Greg Adams of AllMusic notes, "Enthusiasts of Jones' early recordings will enjoy everything here, but the presentation is unfortunately marred by an electronically re-processed stereo effect." The LP contains several obscure cuts, including "You're in My Heart," which was the B-side to Jones' very first single "No Money in This Deal", and "Rain Rain", which Jones composed with Roger Miller and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson. "I'm a One Woman Man" and "Maybe Little Baby" flirt with a rockabilly sound, but overall the album is straight 1950s honky-tonk.

The reissue was released in May 2015 and includes the 1959 Mercury Records studio album "White Lightning and Other Favorites". It also includes several bonus tracks. The bonus tracks are singles recording during the late 1950's.
