Simon Coates (born in Sheffield) is a British artist & curator who currently lives and works in Dubai. He works in paint, installation, mixed media and film.[1]

About

Coates attended Plymouth College of Art where he completed a course in Foundation Art. He went on to complete a degree in Fashion Design at Harrow College of Art, which became part of the University of Westminster in 1990.

Coates work is influenced by the late West Country painter Robert Lenkiewicz, the works of the Viennese Actionists (particularly Hermann Nitsch), the political cartoonist Ralph Steadman and the works of Samuel Beckett, amongst others.

In 2015 Coates opened the Middle East base for the Hungry Castle artist collective, the team responsible for large-scale public artworks like Lionel Richie's Head, Laser Cat and more.[2]  In September 2015 he will launch the Middle East's only sound art club night - Tse Tse Fly - with Ram Nath.[3]
