Judy Pavithra Balan, (born September 2, 1981) is a comedy writer and author.[1] Her first book, Two Fates, was a best-seller. She is also the author of the blog Woman and a Quarter. In 2014, Balan worked as the Creative Director at Raising iBrows, a digital media audience engagement company.
Early life and education
Balan was born in Chennai, India, to Catholic Christian Parents, Michael and Rajini Balan. She has one brother.
Balan completed her schooling at the Good Shepherd Convent Chennai, from kindergarten until Grade 10, after which she moved onto Sacred Heart, Church Park, in Chennai, for her 11th and 12th Grades. She pursued a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature at Stella Maris, Chennai, India.
Career
Following her degree, Balan worked at advertising agencies for about five and a half years,[2] at times staying home to care for her daughter. She completed some freelance assignments and kept writing. Soon after a divorce,[3] she began a blog that was originally called “Quips Over Coffee”, later changed to “Woman and a Quarter”.[4][5][6] The blog was an import of a media column. Balan also wrote a column for Hindustan Times Brunch called The Accidental Philosopher in 2012. She appeared on NDTV for a panel discussion as a panelist on the topic of whether the divorce bill should be gender neutral.
Balan wrote the parody “Two Fates”,[7][8] and later a second book, Sophie Says., about a break-up coach and her story.[9][10] [11] Both books were published by Westland Pvt. Ltd. Her third book, How to Stop Your Grownup From Making Bad Decisions, was released in 2014,[12] by Harper Collins.
Following a divorce, Balan began writing plays in 2012, which were staged by Stray Factory Entd.[13] Two of her plays - The Catch and The Vampire and The Bimbette - were part of the Short+Sweet Festival in Chennai.

Balan is divorced and has one daughter.
