Dr. Antonio Nieto (born September 1967) is an Earth Systems and Mining Engineer. He is currently an associate professor with the Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering at Pennsylvania State University.[1]

Career

Dr. Nieto worked as an Assistant Professor at Virginia Tech and prior to his academic career he worked as a mining engineer in underground mining and surface mining.

Dr. Nieto holds a BS in mining engineering from Guanajuato School of Mines, a MS in geo-statistics from Ecole Des Mines de Paris (Paris Tech), and a MS and PhD in earth-systems engineering from Colorado School of Mines.

Dr. Nieto specializes in ore reserve estimation and mining methods at Penn State University. His research focuses on mining operations and information technology, specifically in the areas of ore spatial characterization and real-time sensing systems. Dr. Nieto holds a B.S. Mining degree from Guanajuato School of Mines, an M.S. in Mining Engineering from Colorado School of Mines, an M.S. in Geostatistics from Ecole Des Mines de Paris, and a Ph.D. in Earth Systems at the Colorado School of Mines.

Dr. Nieto is often interviewed by news networks on mine safety and technology news.[2] Dr. Nieto has published more than 67 scientific papers on mining technology, mine safety, mineral economics, and hydrates extraction by CO2 sequestration.[3] His publications and books include, a book chapter on underground-mine design in the latest edition of the SME Mining Engineering Handbook 2011[4], Supply and demand analysis of rare-earths,  Issues and policy implications of sustainability in China mining-communities, Regulatory mechanisms for improving global mine safety,  Key deposit indicators and key ore-extraction indicators in mineral extraction, Safety violations for coal mines, GPS-google-earth systems in surface mines, Effects of legislation on mine safety technology and innovation in the USA.
