See Talk:George Soros. His Hungarian name has been in the Hungarian form for over 5 years and there hasn't been a problem. Smallbones(smalltalk) 05:00, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Smallbones: Where in the talkpage has this been discussed? In the archives? 203.59.20.130 (talk) 05:15, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
5-10 years ago. Also see the bottom of the current talk page. I hope that you do not want to say that the Hungarian naming system is incorrect when used in Hungary. This page has been the site of some pretty vicious attacks and WP:BLP violations over the years, so I don't put up with any nonsense. Please continue any discussion on the talk page there. @Smallbones: Could you find the actual discussion for me? I had a look through but couldn't find any thing. I'm curious to see people's rationale. 203.59.20.130 (talk) 14:45, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
My argument is that most readers of the English Wikipedia are unfamiliar with Hungarian naming customs, and will expect that "Schwartz" was his given name at birth and "György" was his family name based on how we're currently displaying it. It is common to convert Hungarian names to the Western naming order in English Wikipedia (e.g. at Imre Nagy). Perhaps a note could be attached to the top of the article if that's not possible? 203.59.20.130 (talk) 14:48, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The reasoning is pretty simple. When we say "born August 12, 1930, as Schwartz György" that's because his name at birth was Schwartz György, not György Schwartz. Nobody would have called him György Schwartz. Please just leave this alone. Smallbones(smalltalk) 14:55, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Smallbones: Yes, but Imre Nagy's name at birth was Nagy Imre, and our article talks about Imre Nagy. This is common across all Hungarian pages in English Wikipedia. 203.59.20.130 (talk) 14:58, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'll start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Biographies. 203.59.20.130 (talk) 15:00, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
