Yoiking with the Winged Ones is a polyphonic sound project by Ánde Somby.[1] Somby is yoiking in concert with the sounds of nature.[2] Yoiking is the ancient chanting practise of the Sámi People, an indigenous people of northern Europe.[3][4] The album edtion of the project is due to be released by ASH International as a vinyl record in January 2016.[5]

The project is performed and produced by Ánde Somby, an artist deeply rooted in the yoik tradition. In this project Somby expands the act of yoik in to an epressive mode.[6] Sombys yoiking has been compared to the energy that punk had before it was tamed in the music studios.[7] Klassekampen compared Somby to the english punk band Cockney Rejects.[8]

The recordings and post production are by Chris Watson, sound artist and sound recordist from Newcastle upon Tyne.

The sampling of sounds took place in Kvalnes, Lofoten in June 2014. The artist A K Dolven, living in Kvalnes and London has been instrumental and important in developing the concept, and produced the album's cover art.[9] The production was supported by the Sami Parliament of Norway.[10]

The title is inspired by the stories about the faeries and elves in mythology, and the recording was inspired by the Arctic climate. There are four tracks on this record, which is released by Ash International.
