William Charles Morva is a 24 year old escaped inmate who has allegedly killed two in the Christiansburg / Blacksburg area in Southwest Virginia near the Virginia Tech campus. While in jail for an attempted robbery, he was taken to Montgomery Regional Hospital for a leg sprain when he overtook an officer who was transporting him there. He took his service pistol, shot the officer, and upon fleeing also shot and fatally wounded a security officer at the hospital. This initiated a manhunt for Morva, who, early on the first day of the fall semester August 21, 2006, shot and killed an officer on the Huckleberry Trail near the Virginia Tech Campus. After rumors of Morva holding up a hostage in Squires student center spread (Police reports and information overheard on police scanners has since given the impression that this was not the case), Virginia Tech cancelled classes and closed campus.

Police last reported looking for Morva on Ramble Road near the Airport. Police have advised residents to stay indoors and to lock their doors.

According to residents in the area, a firearm sounding similar to a handgun was discharged at approximately 11pm the night before the alleged slaying on the Huckleberry Trail.[citation needed]

Morva was never a student of Virginia Tech, but has connections to the community. [1]

Morva is a 5'10", 160 pound white male with brown hair, green eyes, and an underbite. He is currently at large and is to be considered armed and dangerous. A manhunt is underway.

Unconfirmed Rumors

  • A hostage situation occured in Squires Student Center resulting in the evacuation and police raid of the facility.
  • The hostage situation resulted from a misunderstanding resulting from a student calling her mother from a cellphone and claiming there was a hostage situation in the building. The mother then alerted police causing the situation to explode into mass panic.
