Famous qoutes
I suggest that either more quotes are added or even better, remove the section and incorparate the quote into the text. Redslap 10:49, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- Move it to WikiQuote at least. Wikipedia is not the place for quotes. CanbekEsen 19:36, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
Beware the fan boy?
"and is without a doubt one of the most talented people working in Hip-Hop"
- Care to elabourate your point? And please sign the post. It is true that the quote is strong and probably needs some citation albeit I believe the quote to be true Redslap 10:49, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
Opinions aside, if it's a quote it should be cited. If it's merely an opinion of the writer, it should be kept off the page. 69.234.107.163 05:50, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
What happened to the discography?
There use to be a good, concise discography here. Now it's been removed and all that exists is a link to a messy, incomplete discography page. Madlib already has a complete, thorough discography on his website, but this wiki page should have his own main albums listed. 69.234.107.163 05:48, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Everything that was there was moved to the discography page... CAN 04:55, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Date of birth
To whoever added Madlib's date of birth: care to back it up? I believe it to be accurate, just need something to confirm it. Funkyvoltron 15:22, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
Article Merge
no way it should be merged .... although quas is madlib, people need to view them as seperate entities because madlib gives them completely separate voices and style, quas is the unseen, and to understand what madlib is trying to accomplish you have to view him as thee astro black, the black man of space, whereas madlib is the mc- producing-dj
It should not,as quasimoto is a rapper and not the producer which is madlib. Allthough they are the same person, they are totally different
It should definitely be merged with Quasimoto. They are the same person. 22:32, 9 March 2006 (UTC)jc2k6
It is true that they are the same person. However Quasimoto or Lord Quas is not only the alter ego of Madlib, but within the context of his music, beyond another aspect of his persona to the point of being his own person. Therefore they should not be merged, both listings should have a sub-heading linking to the other article.
I think that they should both be merged into an article called Otis Jackson Jr. This is similar to the way that article Daniel Dumile contains infomation about all of his aliases.--Krackpipe 10:36, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
I agree with Krack, the two articles should be merged under Otis Jackson Jr.
Since both Madlib and Quasimoto are in reality Otis Jackson Jr., I concur.
push comes to shove is not in the disog
It's all the same person, and he's best known as Madlib. Merge.
Yeah, go for the merge.AJulian 05:25, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- Yes but as Madlib or Otis Jackson? I lean toward Madlib...--Rockero 05:04, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Merge it. And just have his alias' albums listed the way they are on the MF DOOM page. --Sam 09:09, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
Merge under Otis Jackson, Jr. as per Dumile. All information & aliases in one handy, logical place. W guice 19:01, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Merge under JacksonRedslap 10:42, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
- Merge, but under Madlib Funkyvoltron 17:35, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Madlibstreet.jpg
Image:Madlibstreet.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:59, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Quasimoto/Lord Quas

Question
At one point, this article states that Madlib uses Mario Van Peebles samples, and later, Melvin Van Peebles. I know this is a small point, but can anyone site a reference to clarify?? I am pretty sure the first mention should be Melvin, not Mario.--Nihilistic Misanthrope 10:24, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Featured Article
Yea, go for it. I think the article looks pretty good.--64.136.76.132 (talk) 16:38, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Quasimoto voice altering techniques
I'm fairly sure that I had read in interviews that Madlib actually gets the Quasimoto voice the old-fashioned way of speed manipulation, and consequently raps super slow to get the desired effect.
- No, if that was true Madlib could perform as him live using a filter. I heard that he just runs the beat or a metronome slower and then speeds it up to the tempo of the actual song. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's right. Wndrby 07:10, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
- That's what he just said. Speed manipulation. MarcelloRubini (talk) 16:20, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

1) I am not sure, but I don't think Madlib is from Oakland, CA. He is listed in this category ("People from Oakland, CA"), but his article says he is from Oxnard, CA. I don't actually know where he is from, but I love hip hop, and I love Madliib, and I am doing research on Oakland, CA, and I have never heard that he was from Oakland before. Also, I know for a fact that his record label (Stones Throw Records) is based in LA, so it seems likely to me that he is from OXNARD and not OAKLAND, since Oxnard is in So. California.
2) Madlib has many recording personalities (Quas, Yesterday's New Quintet, Jaylib, Madvillian, etc.), and these should each have their own page simply because they are different artistic personalities. Someone looking for info on Quasimoto won't find a Madlib article unless it redirects to there -- but I think they might just be looking for info on Quas, and it would disorient them to redirect them to Madlib. 3) It is indisputable -- Madliub is one of the most important figures in hip hop right now. There seems to be some confusion about this. Anyone listening carefully to current hip hop (i.e. not just listening to what gets radio play) knows his name an his influence. He is the main force unifying or fusing jazz and hip hop, and, in my opinion, the most accessible frontiersman in hip hop today. That is to say, he is innovating, no question, but in a way where his influence can be clearly seen. He is underground, but interacting with the mainstream -- J Dilla and Talib Kweli, to name two. That is all. |
