Heart of Gold is a science-fiction novel by Sharon Shinn. The story occurs on an unamed work in an unnamed city where three races(Indigo, Gullden, and Albino) live together. The books focuses on conflicts between the aristocratic, pastoral Indigo and the clanish, technical Gullden. The Albino race exists only in the background.

The story follows Nolan Adelpho, an Indigo scientist, and Kitrini Candachi, a mixed Ingido and Gullden aristocrat, through the tensions and conflicts that are occuring as their city and cultures change.
