== Sunil Subramani ==

Born and brought up in a middle-class family in Mumbai, Sunil’s childhood was no different from that of most others – schooling, gully cricket, festivals and all else that comes with the package. Growing up, he never imagined being part of the film industry. As a youngster, Sunil used to work as a courier delivery boy in a courier company. He even worked as a customer care executive in a bank.

Journey Details ( How the Journey Started ) – Sunil’s life was to change around 1999 , when he got an opportunity to handle production for Mr. Anurag Basu’s mother, Mrs. Deepshikha Basu. It was there that he met Mr. Sikandar Rana for the first time. Sikandar mentored Sunil in various aspects of production. Thereafter Sunil joined Mr. Anurag Basu in his pilot project on television. Sunil <ref>http://indianexpress.com/article/entertainment/bollywood/working-with-anurag-basu-has-been-spectacular-sunil-subramani/<ref> used to handle various things and gradually became the ‘Go To’ man for Mr. Anurag Basu. There came a phase when Sunil used to live and work out of his car without going home for days together. Working with Mr. Anurag Basu was not an easy task but Sunil learnt many things from him, including how to arrange anything at any given point of time, which, more often than not, meant the 11th hour. More than a Guru, Mr. Basu is like an elder brother to him and Sunil has immense respect for him. The only time Sunil went against Mr. Basu’s advice was when he asked Sunil not to quit his studies in order to work with him. Sunil opted to work with him nonetheless.

Career Details - Out of the 16 years in this industry, 8-9 years have been in television. In fact, Sunil was, on several occasions, offered to direct television shows for Mr. Anurag Basu’s home production, but he was never inclined towards directing for television. There is possibly more money in television but fame, not money, was Sunil’s topmost priority.

With that in mind, Sunil wrote and directed his first short film ‘Sarahana’. The entire cast and crew of the film was exceptionally supportive and did the film because they wished the best for him. Even a senior actor like Mr. Uday Tikekar was just a phone call away. With such an unconditional support coming in from all quarters, his responsibility of making a good film had grown manifold. Hence, when the film was well received at the Royal Stag ‘Large Short Films’ Festival, Sunil was liberated.

The success of a short film however does not necessarily translate into opportunities on the big screen. After initial jubilation over the appreciation for Sarahana, Sunil went through a low phase where the future was looking bleak. It was in one of those lull moments that he got a call from his friend Pawan Kumar Sharma, who had penned an unconventional story, titled ‘Fuddu’ and wanted Sunil to direct it for Mahima Productions. Sunil shall be forever grateful to him and Mr. Pradeep Gupta, the producer of the film, for having placed their confidence in him.

Filming ‘Fuddu’ was a very special experience and Sunil will cherish it for the rest of his life. The film had many new faces in the cast and crew and worked as one big happy family. The Unit had a great time filming it, overcoming every challenge that came its way.

For Sunil, no challenge is too big and no work is too small. Whether it is production, direction, assisting the captain or captaining the ship, he does it with equal passion and dedication. At the end of the day, each member is just a small part of the big picture.
