DAD-IS is the acronym of the worldwide Domestic Animal Diversity Information System of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, within the FAO's management of animal genetic resources programme.[1] It includes a searchable database of information about breeds, the Global Databank for Animal Genetic Resources; it also holds tools for management, and contacts for the National and Regional Coordinators for the programme.[1] Data from the Global Databank is used for reporting on the global status and trends of animal genetic resources.

Breeds in the Global Databank

The total number of mammalian national breed populations recorded in DAD-IS in February 2016 was 11 116, and the total number of avian national breed populations was 3 799.
