Kevin Deutsch (born May 9, 1981 in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Miami Beach, Florida) is an American author and award winning criminal justice journalist[1]. His first nonfiction book, The Triangle: A Year on the Ground with New York's Bloods and Crips (2014)[2], is an immersive account of the year the author spent covering a Bloods-Crips gang war on Long Island[3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]. His second nonfiction book, Pill City: How Two Honor Roll Students Foiled the Feds and Built a Drug Empire (2017)[9], chronicles the true story of how opiates stolen during the Baltimore riots sparked a wave of inner-city addiction and violence[10]. Deutsch has worked on staff at Newsday[11], The New York Daily News[12] [13], The Miami Herald[14], The Palm Beach Post[15], and The Riverdale Press.[16] His work has also appeared in Newsweek[17], The Village Voice[18], The Forward[19], Columbia Journalism Review[20], and The New York Post[21]. Deutsch is considered an expert on American street gangs and drug trafficking [22][23] [24] [25] [26], and has received multiple prizes for his writing about crime and national news events, including an Associated Press award for justice beat reporting[27]. He teaches journalism at Queens College [28] and lives in New York City.
