Karen Civil is an Haitian-American entrepreneur, author, motivational speaker and philanthropist.

Early life

Civil first debute when she was on high school by launching popular fan sites for actor J. D. Williams and The Backstreet Boys.[1] Upon completing Elizabeth High School, she attended Union County College in New Jersey and earned Associate of Arts & Communication, in Radio.[2]

Career

Karen founded Always Civil Enterprise, a full-service branding and marketing agency, in 2008. Since being created, which helped elevate the careers of many artists.[3][4][5][6]

In November 2015, she published her first book, Be You & Live Civil: Tools for Unlocking Your Potential & Living Your Purpose.[7][8]

In 2015 Civil joined New York City's HOT 97 as an intern[9][10] for DJ Funkmaster Flex.[5]

In 2016, Civil become an Associate Producer of the Documentary film about Kyrell "Rell" Tyrel and bike culture.[11]

Speaker

On September 15, 2015, Karen Civil was a guest speaker at The White House, where she delivered a heartfelt message for their ‘Champions of Change’ event.[12] The event honored eleven young women as Champions of Change for their courage and contributions to their communities.

Civil also speaks as a host for Hillary Clinton sponsored Democratic rallies[1][13] along with numerous universities around the country, major companies like BET,[14][15] and women empowerment conferences and panels.

Philanthropy

In 2015, to celebrate her 30th birthday, she partnered with Sow a Seed – a non­profit, volunteer­ based organization that supports orphanages with a special focus on the welfare of Haiti’s children – to break the ground on the first Live Civil Playground.[16][17] The Live Civil Playground will be home to ten interactive games, offering elementary math concepts, built from reused tires in a sandbox structure. There will be an area dedicated to story time, allowing for plays and lectures as well as an area with interactive musical instruments and educational games to help teach children strategy building and problem ­solving.[9]

Karen Civil teamed up with Grammy Award winning artist, Lil Wayne, to brighten up the holiday season for over 500 students in Haiti.[18]

Controversy

In 2016 BuzzFeed found tweets from 2009 by Civil that used anti-gay and anti-Jewish slurs.[19] The Clinton campaign responded that they had no control over the speech of non-campaign staff.[19]
