Reception
The Writer with No Hands won the Tablet of Honor at the 2014 Ammar Popular Film Festival.[2] Consensus held that the mystery elements of the film were "compelling" and "intriguing". D Magazine included the film in its top ten at the Dallas Videofest.[3]
More contentious was the way the story was told, with some publications calling its approach "as beguiling as the mystery it is trying to solve", and others calling it a "sour" and "dubious" product "that borders on unethical".[4] Cinestyle said: "I wouldn’t want to be [director] Westaway’s friend (or enemy!)... This documentary is riveting".[5]
