Football school "METTA" was officially founded on May 2, 2006. The school was existing already from year 2000. In previous years the football school took part only in youth tournaments. In 2007 football school "METTA" and University of Latvia (Latvijas Universitāte) made a senior team FS METTA/Latvijas Universitāte and participated in Latvian Championship 1st division (Traffic 1. līga) and finished the season in the 4th position. Next 4 seasons were spent in the same level league. In 2011 Metta made their greatest achievement, winning the Latvian First League championship and automatically being promoted to the Latvian Higher League – the top tier of Latvian football.[1]
The base of the team is made from the best football playing students of Latvian University and talented high-school students, who continue their studies at LU. The team was created with an aim to give youngsters from all around Latvia a chance to study and develop their footballing skills.[2]
