Rachel Keen (London, 1997), known professionally as Raye is a British singer and songwriter. She is best known for featuring on Jonas Blue's 2016 single "By Your Side" and, more recently, Jax Jones' 2016 single "You Don't Know Me", which peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart. She was short-listed for the BBC Music Sound of... award for 2017 and was named in third place.
Early life
Born in Tooting[1] before moving to Croydon, Raye studied at the BRIT School for two years before dropping out after she felt "confined...despite learning an extensive amount".[2]
Career
2014–15: Early beginnings
On 11 December 2014, Raye released her debut extended play Welcome to the Winter.[3] On 7 February 2015, she released her debut single "Flowers".[4] On 28 April 2015, she released the single "Alien".[5]
2016–present: Breakthrough
On 11 August 2016, she released her second extended play Second.[6] "I, U, Us" was released as the lead single from the EP on 14 October 2016.[7] She featured on Jonas Blue's single "By Your Side". It was released on 28 October 2016 and peaked at number 15 on the UK Singles Chart. She features on Jax Jones' single "You Don't Know Me". It has reached number 3 on the UK Singles Chart.
On the 9th February 2017, Raye performed her first headline concert at XOYO in Shoreditch, London.[8]
On March 10th 2017, Raye was featured on Charli XCX's Dreamer alongside Starrah.
