mcTLS, or multi-context TLS, is a communications protocol that extends TLSv1.2 (version 1.2 of the Transport Layer Security protocol) to allow trusted middleboxes to proxy encrypted and authenticated traffic.[1] It was designed by researchers from Telefónica Research, Case Western Reserve University, and Carnegie Mellon University.[2]
