Nyaa Torrents (named from the Japanese term for a cat's meow) was a BitTorrent website focused on East Asian (Chinese, Japanese, and/or Korean) media. It was one of the largest public anime-dedicated torrent indexes.
In 2011, some of the site users were targeted for digital piracy.[1] In 2014 the site was identified as a major digital piracy outlet by the Japanese government.[2] The site was a target of a large DDoS attack in early September 2014.[1][3]
On 1 May 2017, their .se domain name was deactivated by their registrar.
