History

Sandhar was founded by a first generation entrepreneur, Jayant Davar, in 1985. It started by supplying sheet metal parts for Hero Motorcycles.

In a span of 3 decades it grew into a multi-location, multi-product company with 34 manufacturing plants(30 in India, 2 in Spain and 1 each in Poland and Mexico). It manufactures mirror plates, zinc die casting, plastic injection moulding, cabins, aluminium spools, spindles and hubs, wheel assemblies, sheet metal components, dies and moulds, aluminium components, tools, crane and tractor parts, plastic parts such as door handles, panels for televisions and cabinets for air coolers and handle bar assemblies. It has almost all the prominent OEM’s intwo wheelers, passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, off-highway vehicles and tractorsas its customers.

The company has expanded through acquisitions and undertaking new Brownfield and Greenfield projects. They acquired theAdeep Group in 2005, the Barcelona unit of TECFISA in 2007, MAG engineering in 2012,and the cabins business of Aarkay Fabsteel Systems Private Limited in 2014.

Sandhar has partnered with the best in the world like Honda lock manufacturing, JEM, Lyssen, Plato etc. for technology sourcing, and also uses its own R & D center -the Sandhar center for innovation and Development to innovate and develop new products and technology. The company has applied for 6 patents so far.

The single most important milestone in the company’s history that changed its course was the investment by Actisand acquisition of Adeep Group. Having tasted success with this acquisition led the company to more acquisitions in the future and they grew at a fast pace.

Operations

The company had started operations on the traditional format of each unit being a profit center, but with passage of time this resulted in wastages. To eliminate the wastages, in 2008, the company created virtual business divisions cutting across locations and manufacturing facilities to improve operational efficiency as well as to enhance and promote synergies between manufacturing facilities.

A. Automotives division

This Division manufactures products based on proprietary technology or technology absorbed over a period of time pursuant to technical collaborations.

The product line includes locking systems, rear view mirrors systems, auto relays, switches, hinges and latchesfor two-wheeler and four-wheeler OEMs and door handles for four-wheeler OEMs.

B. Components division

This is a result of the overall strategy of being self-reliant in respect of key materials and processes required for the products manufactured by the Automotives division.

The product range includes sheet metal stampings and tubular components, zinc and aluminium high pressure die cast components such as wheel hubs, spools, spindles, sprockets and plastic injection moulding components.

C. Automach division

Using modern production processes and manufacturing technologies for wheel forming, tri-nickel chrome plating and assembly machines, the division manufactures and assembles wheel rims and wheel assemblies, handle bars, clutch and brake panels and fender assemblies for two wheelers.

D. Cabin and Fabrication division ' This division came into existence with Acquisition of Mag Engineering in fiscal 2013 and the cabin business of Arkay Fabsteel in fiscal 2015.It manufactures operator cabins, canopies, housings, panels, switchboards, control cabinets and other high precision sheet metal components for back hoe loaders, excavators, wheel loaders, cranes and tractors.

This division came into existence with Acquisition of Mag Engineering in fiscal 2013 and the cabin business of Arkay Fabsteel in fiscal 2015.It manufactures operator cabins, canopies, housings, panels, switchboards, control cabinets and other high precision sheet metal components for back hoe loaders, excavators, wheel loaders, cranes and tractors.

E. HSCI division

This division, predominantly supplies to Honda Cars. It supplies lock assemblies, door handles, mirror assemblies and painted products for passenger vehicles.
