Stochata is the name of one of the earliest (1959) compositions of generative music, created by electronic engineer John R. Pierce with Bell Labs. I had the alias 'stochata' for many years before I heard of Pierce through a musical friend. Presumably both he and I thought of it through its connection with randomness, from stochastic, and musical composition, from toccata (the 'ch' in stochata is hard).
