North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust was created in April 2001 by merging Carlisle Hospitals NHS Trust and West Cumbria Healthcare NHS Trust. It runs Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, Cumbria, West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven and a birthing centre at Penrith Hospital, England.
Financial Problems
e Trust has is currently working to reduce its financial deficit with their cost improvementmprogramme and is looking at working more with local health organisations in the area such as CPFT and CCG. h
Special measures
The Trust came out of Special Measures in March 2017 after an inspection by the CQC.
The Trust was placed in special measures as a result of Sir Bruce Keogh's review of hospital mortality.[1] In October 2013 the Trust was put into the highest risk category by the Care Quality Commission.[2]
In December 2013 the Trust was one of thirteen hospital trusts named by Dr Foster Intelligence as having higher than expected higher mortality indicator scores for the period April 2012 to March 2013 in their Hospital Guide 2013.[3] It was put into a buddying arrangement with Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.[4]
Private Finance Initiative
The Trust was the first PFI hospital in England.
Staffing
The Trust is actively recruiting and has recently been to recruitment fairs across the country.
e Trust is continuing to actively recruit and has recently (June 2017) been to a recruitment fair in Cork, Ireland in a bid to attract new staff. uh
