Saaxdheer is on the border with Ethiopia. The town lies in the Sahader Valley, due south of Las Anod, the Sool region's capital. The Saaxdheer settlement was first inhibited in the early 20th century as a camp when a water reservoir dug by a Salebaan Mursal in the 1960s.
