The 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup will be the 22nd edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, the biennial international men's youth football championship contested by the under-20 national teams of the member associations of FIFA, since its inception in 1977 as the FIFA World Youth Championship.

Host selection

The bidding process to host the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup and the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup was launched by FIFA in June 2017.[1] A member association may bid for both tournaments, but they will be awarded to different hosts. The timeline of the bidding process is as follows:[2]

7 July 2017 Deadline for the member associations to declare their interest in hosting
14 July 2017 FIFA to send out the bidding and hosting documents
18 August 2017 Deadline for the member associations to re-confirm their interest in bidding
1 November 2017 Deadline for the member associations to submit the definitive bid
Q4 2017 / Q1 2018 Expected appointment date of the hosts by the FIFA Council

Qualified teams

Currently a total of 24 teams qualify for the final tournament, this will be the case unless FIFA change the format. In addition to the host who qualify automatically, 23 other teams qualify from six separate continental competitions.
