Entrepreneurship

Rakesh pioneered technology content creation[7] by creating TWB_ in 2006 and grew his bootstrapped personally funded company[8] into a worldwide leader . He went on to create the first content automation solution in India and led to TWB to become the largest India-based pure-play Technical Publications vendor.

Philanthropy

Rakesh through TWB_ have always focused on creating opportunities for women in the workforce[9] by employing a large proportion and speaking for them and he would later institutionalize health care and opportunities for rural women through his non-profit VOSD for People[10].

Animal Rights

Frequently labeled the ‘‘The Dogfather of India’[11] or ‘Dog Whisper[12]’ he set about creating VOSD after the press went berserk reporting the death of a two-year-old boy named Sandeep in July 2011 reportedly killed and eaten by stray dogs[13]. Alarmed by the calls to cull what are lawfully protected animals since 2001[14]. Rakesh carried out independent investigations including a second autopsy, and came away with evidence that shifted the blame away from the dogs[15]. These were first published in on VOSD investigative website in July 2010[16] and since then VOSD has conducted 100s of investigations[17] leading to the closure of many rogue NGOs . Rakesh was co-opted officially as a member of the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) in 2010 from which he resigned in 2012 citing a pressure from within AWBI Board to change many investigations carried out as an AWBI member[18]. With the eventual death of Cookie a paralyzed St Bernard found in garbage in Bangalore in Sept 2012[19] he set about creating what would turned out to the largest rescue of its kind in any city of the world[20]. To ensure no pressure is brought in by government agencies to kill or remove dogs VOSD is not funded by any government agency directly or indirectly[21].

Recognition

Rakesh Shukla was one of Bangalore’s Heroes in 2013[22] . Rakesh speaks for dogs across Television, Radio, Internet Radio, and hundreds of newspaper interviews including BBC[23] , Al Jazeera [24], CNN IBN[25] , NDTV , TED[26]. and others,. Rakesh features in the book “Real Inspiring Stories” written by Maj. (Retd.) Pradeep Khare[27]
