Sonamoo (Korean소나무; stylized as SONAMOO, lit. Pine Tree[1]) is a South Korean girl group formed by TS Entertainment. Their fans are called Solbangul (Hangul: 솔방울) which means pine cone. On December 29, 2014, Sonamoo made their official debut with the extended play, Deja Vu.[1] The group consists of Sumin, Minjae, D.ana, Nahyun, Euijin, High.D and NewSun.[2]

Career

2014–2015: Debut with Deja Vu and comeback with Cushion

On December 29, 2014, Sonamoo officially debuted with the release of their debut EP, Deja Vu and held their debut showcase performance.[3] The album debuted at the number one spot on Gaon's weekly Album Chart.[4] On February 25, 2015, they began promoting another song from the album, "Just Go".[5]

Sonamoo's first overseas performance was in Japan on March 15, 2015, performing at Shibuya and also walked the runway for Onitsuka Tiger x Andrea Pompilio[6]

They had their second overseas activity in Singapore on May 22, 2015 for Kpop Night Out Music Matters in Clarke Quay.[7]

On July 20, 2015, Sonamoo made their comeback with Cushion through their showcase and the release of the music video through TS Entertainment official YouTube channel. The lead song was co-produced by EastWest and ₩uNo, who is known for being the former member of Speed, Taewoon.[8] Members D.ana and NewSun also took part in writing the rap portion for two songs: "Deep" and "Let's Make A Movie". On September 1, 2015, they began promoting "Round N Round", another song from the album.[9]

2016–present: I Like U Too Much, Do I Like You? and Happy Box Project

On June 10, 2016 TS Entertainment announced the group would have a comeback with their third mini-album I Like U Too Much.[10]

On December 21st, TS Entertainment announced that group will return with their 1st single album Do I Like You?, on January 9th, 2017. The lead single is a brighter dance track produced by hit-maker Shin Hyuk.[11]

On July 27, TS Entertainment revealed a teaser image for Sonamoo's “Happy Box Project” revealing that the group will be releasing a new single over the course of several months. The first single Friday Night was released on August 14. The rap portion of the single is written by NewSun.[12][13][14]

Member Euijin was confirmed to be a contestant on KBS Idol Rebooting Project The Unit, which first aired on October 28, 2017.[15]On November 6, Sonamoo will continue their Happy Box Project releasing Happy Box Part 2, featuring the lead single I. The new single is a medium tempo dance track composed by hitmaker e.one, who has previously worked with Wonder Girls.[16]
