Loacker (German pronunciation: [loˈakɐ]) is an Italian company based in South Tyrol, producing wafers, chocolate and derivative products. It was founded in 1925 as a family company by Alfons Loacker.

Loacker has production facilities in Bolzano, Ritten and Heinfels (Austria). It is known for its confections, particularly for its Quadratini, thin cubes composed of wafers layered with sheets of creme. Its products are sold around the globe.

Loacker also distributes Twinings products in Italy.[1]

History

Loacker SpA was founded in 1925 by Alfons Loacker. It began as a small cafe and bakery.[2] Loacker specialised in crafting fine European baked goods such as tortes and cakes, but then focused on baked goods that would retain their freshness over longer periods of time. The decision was actually a by-product of Loacker’s obsession with football as he did not want to work at night, so he started specialising in wafers. As the decades pasted, and the company quickly transformed itself into a regional and then an international specialty, new generations of the Loacker family took over the business.

Today, Loacker is operated by the founders’ grandsons.

By 1974, the company had grown too large for its facilities in Bolzano and had moved to its headquarters in Auna di Sotto. It eventually expanded its Bolzano facilities in 1990. By 1999, it was building a state-of-the-art production site in eastern Tyrol, at a facility specialising in wafers and crème, as well as the company’s chocolate specialities. Today, Loacker employs 662 people, 367 at its main site. Altogether, its activities brought in revenues of 329,3 million EUR in 2016.[3]
