Shu-min
One of Mr. Wee's daughter, Wee Shu Min found herself in an Internet controversy on October 2006 for posting on her blog what is viewed by Singaporeans to be elitist, naive and insensitive statements aganist heartlanders. Dismissing the views of a Singaporean Derek Wee who voiced concerns on job security and age discrimination on his blog, she wrote that Derek is a "stupid crackpot", "the sadder class", overreliant on the government, and in Singapore where society is "far too survival of the fittest" to "get out of my elite uncaring face".[1] Following intense criticism by netizens and her name has topping Technorati's search terms for two days, and has since shut down her blog.[2]
A second-year student on Raffles Junior College's scholarship programme, her father has spoke out that although he supported Shu Min's point in principle, her college principal and Mr. Wee have expressed some disappointment and counselled her to be more empathetic towards other people in society.[2]
