Hey people grading me! The things I'm adding to the Lotte Reiniger article start BELOW THIS LINE!!

Biography

[edit]

Reiniger wrote instructions on how to construct her "trick-table" in her book, Shadow puppets, shadow theatres, and shadow films. [1]

Prince Achmed boasts backgrounds by Walter Türck, special effects by Walter Ruttmann and Berthold Bartosch.[2] (edits to current article, plus citation)

[3](Additional citation for her leftist politics)

After a period of seclusion after her husband's death in 1963, renewed interest in her work resulted in Reiniger's return to Germany. She later visited the United States, and began making films again soon after. She made three more films, the last of which, Die vier Jahreszeiten, was completed the year before she died.[4]

Died in Dettenhausen, Germany, 1981.[2] (added citation here)

Art Style

[edit]

The Adventures of Prince Achmed specifically adapts fantastic elements to take advantage of animation to show things that could not be shown in reality.[2] Reiniger considered animation's separation from the laws of the material plane to be one of the greatest strengths of the medium.[5][6]

Reiniger's work bears distinct aesthetic similarities that of German expressionists, such as Wegener, Wiene, and Murnau.[5]
