Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce
The Cleanup Taskforce is aimed at dealing with issues relating to cleanup, fact checking, and the growth of the Wikipedia project in an efficient manner.
This effort, implemented via a network of Wikipedians, is compatible with (and complementary to) other approaches to article cleanup, namely cleanup pages and categories. This approach also ensures that tasks assigned to the team are never neglected; each issue is always on the "desk" of one or more taskforce members at any given time.
For more information on how you can participate, please see Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce/Members.
Goals
The aim of the Cleanup Taskforce is to deal with editorial issues, fact-checking, and Wikipedia formatting in the most efficient way possible. Policies and guidelines should work to support this aim.
Submit a request
- Note: A new streamlined procedure has been suggested as an alternative to the traditional procedure described in this section. See below and the talk page for more details.
Anyone is welcome to submit a request to the Cleanup Taskforce! Please be bold in assigning work to Taskforce members. To bring a problem article to the attention of the Taskforce, please take the following steps:
- Go to the talk page of the article you wish to list, and add the following line (substituting the article's name for ARTICLENAME) to tag it with the cleanup taskforce notice:
ARTICLENAME
- Edit the Open Tasks section and create a link to a subpage using the following text: /ARTICLENAME, again substituting the title of the article for ARTICLENAME.
- If you're not sure to whom you want to assign the article, leave it at bottom of the list of Unassigned tasks. If you intend to assign it directly to a Taskforce participant, put it at the bottom of the Assigned tasks, with the date you are first listing it.
- Save your changes to the Open Tasks section.
- Follow the new redlink to the task's subpage and add a link to the article there, detailing some or all of the particular problems that need cleaning up. Sign your comments with '~~~~'.
- Example:
ARTICLENAME
The ARTICLENAME article is too short.
We should have more information about this. ~~~~
- If you are not sure who would be best to take on this task and wish to leave it unassigned, simply save your changes. Other editors or Taskforce members are strongly encouraged to add any unassigned tasks to Taskforce members' desks, or to grab some for themselves!
- If you are going to assign this task to a particular user based on their interests or open desk queue, add the following line to the /ARTICLENAME subpage before saving your changes:
Added to User:USERNAME/Desk ~~~~
- Go to the Taskforce participant's desk, insert the following line, and save changes. This will transclude the text of your subpage onto their desk, allowing them a chance to Accept the task and start work on bringing it up to standards, or Reassign it to another user or the Unassigned tasks section.

Wikipedia:Cleanup process details some additional or alternative steps you can take when dealing with a problem article. Wikipedia:Cleanup lists a number of articles identified as needing attention that may or may not have been brought to the Taskforce's attention yet.
Open tasks
Unassigned
Assign the following tasks to Taskforce members:
- /Pi_Beta_Phi contains several factual errors and some rough writing. Could use fact checking, revision.
- /Anuragam A set of very messy pages relating to a NGO providing relief in India
- /Web-brigade Apparently a Russian phenomenon; Google in English found only Wikipedia entry. I can't look it up in Russian.
- /Battle of Königsberg needs some copy editing, MoS checking and so on :)
- /Rise of Sweden as a Great Power confusing history.
- /Chiefs of the Name Author is using historical subject to promote his book, totally biased
- /BMW E90 Updated Oct 06: Still in need of some attention. Conflicting technical data, generalisations about new models without specifying countries
- /Adat Needs attention from someone familiar with the topic. Needs help on the language as well as clarification and wikification.
- /History of Libya In desperate need of attention, maybe could use some of the material from the main Libya article.
- /Joe Sakic: the article gives his name as Joseph Steven Šakić, but it doesn't contain any IPA translation or a pronounciation guide, as articles with Slavic-language (Croatian, in this case) subjects usually do. In North America, his surname is pronounced as Sak - ick, which isn't even particularly close to correct. Compare: Miroslav Satan.
- /Clique Issues with style and sentence structure, sounds a little bit unprofessional and lacking in citations in some areas.
- /Bosnian War
- /Pāli
- /Kosovo War (20 June 2006) if cleaned up FA status is possible.
- /Philadelphia Project article is nothing but uncited conjecture. either needs references or should be purged.
- /Regional organizers and events of Model United Nations (July 1, 2006) - Poor formatting, needs a more logical method of categorizing conference listings.
- /Dwarfism Has entries for people who do not meet the criteria of dwarfism (eg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Weisman
- /Paula Yates
- /Alan Cummings A mess, needs to be overhauled, no narrative flow
- /Nationella insatsstyrkan Very amateurish. Poor word choice/vocabulary, little to no flow, not a very attractive layout, etc. A total or at least a partial rewrite is necessary in my opinion.
- /Gob (band) Very rough writing, could use some general fact checking as well.
- /Bard High School Early College, Definitely needs some visuals, and the Faculty and Student Life section could use some major work and expansion. Student Life is just a list, and isn't very organized, and the Sports section also needs some attention. And the Early College section needs to be started and worked on.
- /Judy Ann Santos Overuse of uppercase letters. Obviously, the editor of the article does not know how to use proper formatting here in Wikipedia.
- /Meg:_A_Novel_of_Deep_Terror Badly in need of cleanup. Not properly formatted and poorly written.
- /Digital rights management Still in need of some cleanup: it's absolutely massive, badly written pages and still POV in some places.
- /Mercora -Is organized as an internet advertisment instead of a correct source of information about the program, and contains possible bias. I recommend in the very least, reorganization. Skandinski 07:49, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
- /Mikheil Saakashvili could use some help, especially with weeding out POV from anti-Saakashvili partisans. Could be benefited with more NPOV info, especially concerning his actions since taking office. -Tim Rhymeless (Er...let's shimmy) 07:36, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- /Dragon Rider
- /W.I.T.C.H. (TV series) - The character's section is just unacceptable for an encyclopedia, plus episode synopsis are directly copied from TV.com.
- /Prestige vehicles - neutrality, does not cite sources
- /Xenophilia - highly dubious content without source added by a handful of users.
- /Loonatics Unleashed - Characters section is a complete mess; some of the entries are too long. Other sections may need to be rearranged in order to be more understandable, such as the Story section.
- /Politician - Needs work!
- /Stereotypes of Asians - Neutrality, constant Inflammatory messages, vandalization, unchecked or biased facts, quotefarm, etc.
- /United States presidential election debates
- /Grime Needs more formal style, needs to be useful to readers without knowledge of music genre
- /Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story Needs major cleanup: massive bulleted lists flood the article.
- /Kevin_Cadogan neutrality issues, loaded terminology
- /Stony Kill FallsNeeds cleanup
- /CVSS Needs cleanup
- /American Psycho Introduction needs expansion; Themes and Symbolism needs to be cleaned up. Clean up tag has remained on the article for a while, so I am approaching the task force for assistance.
- /Social anthropology

Taskforce Tasks
These are tasks relating to the ongoing operations of the Cleanup Taskforce.
- /Meta refresh (June 15, 2005)
- /Are you active? (September 26, 2005)
- /Evaluation, Comments and Closing (October 16, 2005)
Alternate streamlined procedure
Because the process for adding issues to the Taskforce agenda is rather cumbersome, I'm going to experiment with using talk pages as the Taskforce collaboration point instead of a special transclusion page. I'm going to add a bunch of cleanup tasks from 2004, with the goal of getting at least one task on each participant's desk. -- Beland 00:54, 7 August 2005 (UTC)
Procedure:
- Make sure the article is tagged for cleanup.
- Add a link to the talk page to this page.
- Add a link to the talk page from someone's desk.
- Put a note on the talk page that you added it to that desk.
Originally from September, 2004
All opened 7 August, 2005.
- converted to subpage format and moved to unassigned/assigned
Stale requests
If you notice a request that has been sitting on a participant's desk for more than 30 days, you can ask them to reassign it to someone else by putting this text on their user talk page:
- -- ~~~~
How to close a completed request
- On the article's talk page, change the ARTICLE NAME tag (if there is one) to ARTICLE NAME. Otherwise, just note that you are closing the cleanup request.
- Make sure any cleanup tags have been removed from the article and its talk page.
- Remove it from Taskforce members' desks. (Visit the collaboration page and check "What links here".)
- Remove it from this page and, optionally, archive it at Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce/closed
