Ali Baba 40 Dongalu (English: Ali Baba 40 Thieves) is a 1970 Telugu swashbuckling adventure fantasy film, produced by N. Ramabrahmam on Sri Gowtham Pictures banner[2] and directed by B. Vittalacharya.[3] Starring N. T. Rama Rao, Jayalalithaa in the lead roles[4] and music composed by Ghantasala.[5] The film is based on a story from Arabian Nights called Alibaba 40 Thieves.[6]
Plot
The film begins with 40 thieves making robberies in various places of Baghdad and hide the stolen treasure at a secret cave called Sesame. Once their Sardar (Mikkilineni) sends his acolyte Choto (Satyanarayana) along with his daughter Marjiana (Jayalalitha) in disguise to find out the places where rich people reside. Alibaba (N. T. Rama Rao) is a young and energetic guy, seeing the dance of Marjiana, develops the acquaintance with her and both of them get attracted towards each other. Alibaba lives with his elder brother Kasim Khan (Nagabhushanam) along with their mother Chandbibi (Hemalatha). Kasim Khan is a rich person but a miser and similarly, his wife Sultana (Suryakantham) is a shrew. Alibaba does not do any work, that's why his brother separates him and hands over two donkeys for his livelihood. Alibaba decides to bring wood from the forest, while Alibaba is cutting wood he observes head of the thieves chanting some words and the cave door opens they enter. After some time, they come out and he again chants some words then the door closes. Alibaba enters the cave in the same manner and inside the cave, he notices jewelry, diamond & gold. Alibaba collects the jewelry and comes back.
Now Alibaba becomes the richest person in Baghdad. Kasim Khan feels jealous about his brother’s wealth. Kasim Khan & Sultana trap Alibaba to know the secret. Kasim Khan goes to the thieves cave, flabbergasted seeing so much wealth and forget the time. Thieves arrive and catch him. Then they come to know that their brother also knows this place, so, they take him to their fort and torture him. Alibaba comes to know about this through Sultana. He immediately rushes to the cave, finds the route to the fort. But the thieves arrest him, Marjiana helps them to escape. Angered Chotu tries to kill Marjiana but Sardar obstructs his way and he dies. Alibaba brings his brother home but worried about his health condition and due to apprise of thrives he secretly brings a Doctor (Allu Ramalingaiah) by blindfolding and keeps his brother in a dark room. After the treatment while leaving clever doctor keeps a mark on the door.
After that, Alibaba again goes to thieves fort wearing a mask when Chotu is harassing Marjiana to reveal Alibaba identity. He protects her and brings to his house. Meanwhile, Kasim recovers, he & Sultana realize their mistake and says sorry to Alibaba. Chotu secretly meets the doctor and asks him to reveal whom he recently cured of deadly wounds. So, he tries to show the house which he has marked, but Marjiana observes this and cleverly keeps the same mark in every house. Now Chotu decides to burn the entire village. Alibaba motivates the villagers and people guard the village from 4 sides. So, Chotu enters the village as an oil merchant along with 39 oil barrels in which remaining thieves are hidden. Alibaba gives him a warm welcome. At the same time, the oil is completed in the kitchen, so, Marjiana goes to collect some oil from the barrels where she finds out thieves are hiding in it, and she reveals it to Alibaba. Both of them plans secretly burns away the entire barrels. Knowing this Chotu captures Marjiana and runs away. Alibaba follows him, they reach Sesame the cave when Alibaba stamps out Chotu. At last, Alibaba brings the entire villagers to the cave and ask them to share the entire treasure. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note with the marriage of Alibaba & Marjiana.
