Anastasios "Tasos" Chatzigiovanis (Greek: Αναστάσιος "Τάσος" Χατζηγιοβάνης; born 31 May 1997) is a Greek footballer currently playing for Panathinaikos in the Greek Superleague. He plays as a midfielder.[1] Chatzigiovanis can play anywhere across the attacking line, but he’s at his best on the right wing, boasting the ability to beat opponents for pure skill and is a flashy player with the ball at his feet.

Club career

Panathinaikos

Chatzigiovanis plays mainly as a midfielder, and joined Panathinaikos from the youth ranks of the club in the summer of 2016. Having joined the Panathinaikos youth system as a teenager, gifted winger Chatzigiovanis gradually progressed through the academy, catching the eye with his showings for the U-19 side and earning his maiden call-up to the senior squad for the 2016–17 pre-season. Initially, coach Andrea Stramaccioni was reluctant to give the young winger a chance, but he eventually handed Chatzigiovannis his debut in a 0–3 home defeat to Standard Liège in the UEFA Europa League when sending him on as a late substitute.[2]

Besides the fact that mostly used as an impact substitute by Marinos Ouzounidis in the 2017–18 season, the midfielder causes real problems with his flashy moves. On 18 September 2018, in a 3–1 away win game against AEL, youngster Chatzigiovanis put the game out of reach by scoring his first goal of the season with a penalty kick in the final minute of the game. It was his first goal in Super League.[3]

For a while, it was doubtful whether Panathinaikos would even participate in the 2018–19 season, but the administration was granted permission to stay in the top flight and Chatzigiovanis is starting to flourish. Under the guidance of popular boss Giorgos Donis, he’s suddenly become Panathinaikos’ prize possession. On 29 September 2018, he scored with a header after Ousmane Coulibaly's assist in a 2–1 home win game against PAS Giannina. It was his second goal in Super League.[4]
