Julián Castro is a Mexican-American politician from San Antonio, Texas. Castro served on the San Antonio City Council from 2001 to 2005, where he says he established himself as a leader on issues of economic development, education, and environmental protection.. In June of 2005, Castro was defeated by Judge Phil Hardberger in a run-off election for Mayor of San Antonioafter Castro was caught up in a scandal using his idential twin brother to pose in his place to fool voters. Castro acknowledged the duplicity saying he had to be somewhere else and said it was the only time they pulled it. Later, Castro was quoted as saying he hoped having an idential twin brother helped since "he" could be in two places at once." Viewed by many an unethical, Castro believes his own press calling himself, whenever possible a star.

Julian, a native of San Antonio, is a graduate of Stanford and Harvard Law School.
