Walker & Dunlop (NYSE:WD) is a mid-sized commercial real estate finance company founded 1937 in Washington, DC.  It’s currently headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland and has 29 offices across the United States with over 700 employees.[1][2]

History

Walker & Dunlop's primary focus is on multifamily lending. Walker & Dunlop originates, sells, and services a range of multifamily and other commercial real estate financing products, provide multifamily investment sales brokerage services, and engages in commercial real estate investment management activities.[3]

Walker & Dunlop is known as one of the first companies to use FHA insurance to finance single-family home loans, which is now a common practice.  It was also one of the first commercial real estate firms to obtain a DUS license from Fannie Mae.[4][5]

In 1937, Oliver Walker and Laird Dunlop founded the company.[6] In 2010, Walker & Dunlop had an initial public offering (IPO) on the New York Stock Exchange.[7] In 2011, Walker & Dunlop launched a Bridge Lending Program.[8] In 2018, the company entered the asset management business with its acquisition of JCR Capital Investment Corporation, an SEC Registered Investment Adviser and also acquired iCap Realty.[9][10][11][12]

Walker & Dunlop is an approved servicer for Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and HUD loans.[13]
