The Prodigy is an upcoming American horror thriller film directed by Nicholas McCarthy and stars actress Taylor Schilling.[1] The plot centers around a child, whose disturbing behavior signals that an evil, possibly supernatural force possessed him, forcing his parents to investigate whether sinister forces are involved.[2] Jackson Robert Scott, who was one of the stars of the 2017 adaptation of Stephen King's It, plays Schilling's son.[3][4]

Plot

Miles is a young boy who shows signs of genius intellect, but also more disturbing and sinister behaviors. Sarah, his mother, takes him to a therapist, and begins to suspect that he may be influenced or possessed by a supernatural force.[5]

Cast

Production

In June 2018, Orion Pictures announced that the film would be released in February 2019.[6][7] The film was originally titled Descendants.[8] The first poster and trailer were released alongside the release of Halloween.[9] McCarthy revealed in October 2018 that a scene had to be re-edited in October 2018 after it was found that it made a test audience scream so much that they missed the following dialogue.[10]

Release

In the United States and Canada, The Prodigy will be released on February 8, 2019, alongside The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, Cold Pursuit and What Men Want, and is projected to gross $5–6 million in its opening weekend.[11]
