In the scientific literature, there are many species which are claimed to be bioluminescent, but are not, either because the species was infected with bioluminescent bacteria (not a stable symbiosis, for which those species are considered bioluminescent by some authors), or the citations from an early time (~1800s), where the authors were simply mistaken by other phenomena (fluorescence, iridescence etc.)

This page hopes to categorize such mistakenly annotated species.
