Portal:Gaelic games
Created[1] in May 2013 by an IP, abandoned since June 2013.
The list of sub-pages at Special:PrefixIndex/Portal:Gaelic games is not too sparse: 7 biogs, 4 matches, 2 teams and one venue. But only a few of the pages have been edited since June 2013, and those have all been trivial edits such as disambiguation. The rest is just outdated:
- the 4 selected matches (Portal:Gaelic games/Selected match/1, /2, /3, /4) are from 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2009.
- The content-forked biogs are out-of date. e.g.
- Portal:Gaelic games/Selected biography/2 says that Jim McGuinness is the current amnager of the Donegal senior football team. Reality: he left the post in 2014.
- Portal:Gaelic games/Selected biography/3 says that Enda Muldoon is a Gaelic footballer who plays for Derry. Reality: he last played for Derry in 2012.
- Portal:Gaelic games/Selected biography/4 say that Peter Canavan is the current manager of the Fermanagh inter-county Gaelic football team. Reality: he stepped down as Fermanagh manager in September 2013.
- Portal:Gaelic games/News lists matches 2012, 2011 and 2010
- Portal:Gaelic games/Selected team/1 (Donegal GAA) and Portal:Gaelic games/Selected team/2 (Mayo GAA) alternate on the portal under the heading "top team". Neither is a hurling county, and their Gaelic football record qualifies neither as a "top team"; Mayo last won an the All-Ireland in 1951, and Donegal last won it in 2012
- Portal:Gaelic games/Did you know still displays them same 6 items as in 2013[2]. Per WP:DYK, "The DYK section showcases new or expanded articles that are selected through an informal review process. It is not a general trivia section" ... but this 6-year-old list loses the newness, so its only effect is as a trivia section, contrary to WP:TRIVIA.
In theory, this a broad topic. But in practice, it has not met the WP:POG requirement that portals should be about "broad subject areas, which are likely to attract large numbers of interested readers and portal maintainers". But it has had no maintainers since the IP moved on in June 2013, and it gets few viewers. In Jan–Feb 2019 it got only 6 pageviews per day, which is less half than the abysmal median of 13 per day for all portals, and ony 6%% of the 103 daily views of the head article..
The content of the sub-pages is all out-of-date, and the selection of topics is way out-of-date. There is nothing here worth keeping.
Maybe someone will find a way to make such a better portal, and a team of editors to maintain it ... so I propose that this portal and its sub-pages be deleted per WP:TNT, without prejudice to recreating a curated portal in accordance with whatever criteria the community may have agreed at that time.
