  • Comment: Needs more news sources to show notability. The daughter doesn't even have a webpage. It is not clear which organization is running the Qai Qai social media to make the doll popular there. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 14:30, 19 June 2019 (UTC)

Qai Qai, pronounced Qway-Qway, is a real-life doll of Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr, the daughter of American professional tennis player Serena Williams and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. She has become popular on social media as of 2019, with many pictures with her face digitzed to have various expressions.

Background

Alexis Ohanian and Serena Williams' daughter Olympia was born on September 1, 2017 in West Palm Beach, Florida.[1][2] When Williams bought the doll for Oympia, she indicated that she wanted her daughter's first doll to be black because growing up, she did not have many opportunities to own a black doll.[3] Qai Qai got her name from Williams's nephew.[4]

Social media presence

(Need chronology of her appearances on social media)

As of June 2019, Qai Qai has 130,000 followers on Instagram and 23,000 followers on Twitter.[5].

Popularity has increased as Qai Qai has become known for her witty rebuttals and sassy attitude.[citation needed] While likely run by Alexis' parents' Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian, it is unknown who administers the doll's account.[6]

Qai Qai has been featured in several USA Today articles,[7] [8] Today and Oprah magazine.[9]

Digitalization

(Digital transformation)

In addition to the actual doll making appearances, Qai Qai has had her animated facial expressions digitally created and inserted into photographs.[10][6]
