Laura Eason is an American playwright and screenwriter.
Biography
Eason grew up in Evanston, Illinois.[1] She graduated from Northwestern University, before becoming an ensemble member at Lookingglass Theatre Company in Chicago (2011 Regional Theatre Tony Award). With Lookingglasss, she worked as a producer, writer, director and/or actor on more than thirty productions, and served as the company's Artistic Director from 2000 to 2005. A fourth generation Chicagoan, she now lives in Brooklyn, NY with her husband, actor Erik Lochtefeld, and their daughter.
Stage
Eason has written over twenty original plays and adaptations, which have been produced in the US and internationally, in both English and in translation. Her adaptation of Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days originated under her direction at Lookingglass Theatre, Chicago. A reimagined production by Theresa Heskins toured for four years to over twenty cities in the UK. It transferred to New York for a run at the New Victory Theater, where it was a New York Times Critic’s pick.
Sex with Strangers
Her best-known play is Sex with Strangers. Sex with Strangers had its world premiere at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre in 2011. In 2014, it performed off-Broadway at Second Stage Theater in New York. With more than 100 separate productions, it's since become one of the most produced plays in the United States (and Eason one of the most produced playwrights).[2][3]
Screen
Her writing and producing credits for television include The Loudest Voice for Showtime, adapted from Gabriel Sherman’s book about Roger Ailes and Fox News.
She was a writer for four seasons on the Netflix drama House of Cards, and was a producer on Season 5.[4] For House of Cards, Eason received an Emmy Nomination for Drama Series, and a Writers Guild of America Award Nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series.
Laura's feature film debut, Here and Now (formerly Blue Night), developed by and starring Sarah Jessica Parker, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.[5]
Eason is currently adapting Peter Nichols' novel The Rocks for television.[6]
