Legacy Union, formerly known as 620 South Tryon, is a real estate development currently under construction in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. The signature building, Bank of America Tower, stands at a height of 632 feet (200 meters) with 1,000,000 square feet of floor space. It broke ground on August 4, 2017. Honeywell will relocate its corporate headquarters to the site and Deloitte will establish a major corporate presence at the site following the development's completion in 2021.[1]
History
The site of the development is located on the former site of the Charlotte Observer, where it operated since 1927. Lincoln Harris and Goldman Sachs purchased the 10-acre property in 2016 for a price of $37.5 million.
Buildings
Bank of America Tower
Bank of America will occupy 550,000 square feet of the 841,000 square foot building. This will become the fifth tower in Uptown Charlotte to carry the Bank of America name, after Bank of America Corporate Center, Hearst Tower, One Bank of America Center, and Bank of America Plaza. The building features an expansive promenade leading to its entrance and an exterior lighting package extending from the tower's pyramid to its base.
650 South Tryon
The second phase of the Legacy Union development includes the 18-story, 290-ft-tall 650 South Tryon building, which includes 362,000 square feet of office space. Deloitte will be the anchor tenant, leasing 90,000 square feet. Construction of the building began in December 2018.
Honeywell Tower
In late 2018, Honeywell announced it would relocate its corporate headquarters from New Jersey to Charlotte, beginning in 2019. The company looked at the neighborhoods of South End and Ballantyne in Charlotte before deciding on Uptown. In June 2019, Lincoln Harris announced Honeywell will occupy 280,000 square feet in the 23-story building in the Legacy Union development, housing 750 employees. Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2019 with completion in 2021. [2]
Phase Four
The fourth phase of the project is expected to include a luxury hotel and additional retail.
