Banashankari


Banashankari Badami is a temple dedicated to Goddess Banashankari also known as Shakambari. She is an avatar of Goddess Parvati. Legend has it that the temple was built 1500 years ago and has a mixture of Dravidian and Aryan styles.

Famous time to visit the temple is in the month of January during Pushya maasa. Where a navrathri is held.

Situated close to Badami its just 5 minutes by car/bus, in Bagalkot District of Karnataka. In front of the temple one finds a tank and ruins of the old temple.

The Goddess is the Kuladevi to a lot of families and cuts across caste lines.
