Born on the 10th of Febuary 1969. He began his career at AEK Athens, playing 86 games as a right back. though in 1997 new Sheffield United manager Nigel Spackman signed him for 1 million pounds. as well as fellow countryman Traianos Dellas. Borbokis became an instant hero on his debut against Sunderland. Straight away showed his crossing skills, setting up Wayne Quinn. United then went 1-0 up through Jan Age Fjortoft. Then 10 minutes later Borbokis beat two players before hitting the ball from 25 yards out into the top corner. Borbokis played some good football in Spackmans Wing-Back style of play. Through out the start of the 1997/1998 season. United looked to be Premiership bound. Then disaster struck. The chairman allowed top strikers Brian Deane and Fjortoft to be sold to Benfica and rivals Barnsley. Defender Carl Tiler left for Everton and shortly after Spackman left. Caretaker manager Steve Thompson took over untill the end of the season. United began dropping positions but gained a playoff place as well as the FA Cup semi final against Newcastle United. United lost to Newcastle 1-0. But in the first leg of the Playoffs United beat Sunderland AFC 2-1 with Borbokis scoring the winner with a 30 yard free kick. Though at the Stadium of Light united lost 4-2 leaving them outside the Premiership for another year. The next season Borbokis fell out with new manager Steve Bruce and moved to Derby County in a swap deal for Jonathon Hunt. Though he only played 9 games for them and later moved to his home country 6 months later.
