Samir Memišević (Serbo-Croatian pronunciation: [sâːmir memîːʃeʋitɕ]; born 13 August 1993) is a Bosnian professional footballer who plays as a centre back for Eredivisie club Groningen and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.

Memišević started his professional career at Slaven Živinice, before joining Sloboda Tuzla in 2012. The following year, he moved to Teleoptik. Later that year, he signed with Bežanija. In 2014, he switched to Radnik Bijeljina. Two years later, he was transferred to Groningen.

Memišević made his senior international debut for Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2016.

Club career

Early career

Memišević came through Slaven Živinice's youth setup. He made his professional debut in 2011 at the age of 17.[1]

In the summer of 2012, he joined Sloboda Tuzla.[2] On 28 October, he scored his first professional goal against Iskra Bugojno.[3]

In March 2013, he moved to Serbian side Teleoptik, which serves as Partizan's feeder club.[4] In July, he switched to Bežanija, only to return to Teleoptik just months later.[5]

In August 2014, he signed a multi-year deal with Radnik Bijeljina.[6]

Groningen

On 1 August 2016, Memišević was transferred to Dutch team Groningen for an undisclosed fee.[7] He made his competitive debut for the club against Excelsior on his 23rd birthday.[8] On 29 April 2018, he scored his first goal for Groningen.[9]

In April 2019, Memišević extended his contract until June 2021.[10]

On 30 November, he played his 100th game for Groningen.[11]

International career

In May 2016, Memišević received his first senior call-up to Bosnia and Herzegovina, for friendly game against Spain and 2016 Kirin Cup.[12] He debuted in a loss to Spain on 29 May.[13]

Personal life

Memišević's father Midhat was also a professional footballer.[14]
