Occupation

Mittens is a domestic cat in Wellington, New Zealand, who is well known to wander Te Aro and the city's central business district. He enters houses, businesses, cars, restaurants, shops, offices and other people's flats, and is occasionally taken to the SPCA or police.[1] Originally from the suburbs of Auckland, he has become a social media celebrity since he, his brother Latte and their owner Silvio Bruinsma, a partner at Deloitte,[2] moved to the capital city.[3][4] He featured on the 2018 edition of the Wellington Advent Calendar, an online calendar counting down the days before Christmas.[5]Sam Thacker, an SPCA staff member, posted a polite direction about how to treat the adventurous cat if anyone comes across him. 'Please don’t pick him up and bring him into the SPCA,' he said. 'He has come in too many times with well meaning people. All this means is that his owner has to come and collect him off us! We have had him in with us recently and he is perfectly healthy.'[6]
